Pacific Rimu
PACIFIC RIMU (SALUSALU and PODOCARPUS SPP)
Salusalu comes from Fiji and Podocarpus from Papua New Guinea.
The colour ranges from pale brown to a golden orange brown and in appearance resembles Pale NZ Rimu. Because of this resemblance, it is sold in many timber stores as Pac Rimu (Pacific Rimu) or just Rimu.
Unlike NZ Rimu which is becoming harder and harder to source, PAcific Rimu is readily available in most sizes and good long lengths.
The timber seasons well and can be kiln dried easily with very little shrinkage.
The fine properties of texture allow the timber to be planed, turned and sanded to excellent standards, only occasionally chipping out.
It will take both natural finishes and paint well.
